Of every powersports question we get in our St. George office, this one tops the list: "What's a UTV policy actually going to cost me?" The honest answer is that 2026 rates in Utah are wider than most riders expect — we've written full-coverage side-by-side policies for under $25/month and we've quoted built race-ready Mavericks north of $130/month. Here's exactly what moves the number.

2026 Utah UTV insurance — typical price ranges

Based on quotes we've run across our carrier panel (Progressive, Foremost, Dairyland, Nationwide, OnPoint Insurance Group programs) in Washington and Iron counties this spring:

  • Liability-only: $90–$220 per year for a stock side-by-side. Good for a machine that lives on private property or sees light street-legal use.
  • Full coverage (liability + comp + collision): $280–$650 per year for most stock RZR XP, Maverick X3, and Can-Am Defender owners.
  • Built / heavily modified machines: $700–$1,600+ per year. Long-travel kits, turbo upgrades, and aftermarket cages all push the agreed value up — and the premium with it.

What actually drives your UTV premium

1. Stated value and modifications

Carriers rate on the total replacement value, not just what you paid. A $28,000 RZR Pro R with $15,000 in mods is a $43,000 machine — make sure that's documented in writing, with photos, before a loss. We've seen too many claims paid at "stock NADA value" because the upgrades were never declared.

2. Street-legal status

Once your UTV is OHV-titled and street-legal in Utah (mirrors, horn, signal kit, registered for road use), the carrier treats it more like a motor vehicle. Liability limits matter more, and you'll want UM/UIM in case you tangle with an uninsured pickup on a county road. This typically adds $40–$120/year, but it's some of the cheapest coverage on the policy.

3. Passenger and medical add-ons

Most UTV losses we see involve a passenger — that's the whole point of a side-by-side. Carry guest passenger liability and medical payments at meaningful limits ($5,000–$10,000 medpay is common). The cost is usually $30–$80/year and it's the line that pays out fastest after a real-world rollover.

4. Where you ride

Sand Hollow, Sand Mountain, Hurricane Sand Dunes, the Paiute Trail, Coral Pink — Southern Utah's premier riding terrain also produces a lot of claims. Carriers know this. A garaging ZIP code in St. George, Hurricane, or Cedar City runs slightly higher than a rural Beaver County ZIP, but it's a small swing (usually under $50/year).

5. Rider history

Powersports policies look at your auto MVR. A clean driving record matters more than how long you've ridden. Two at-fault claims in three years can double your UTV premium even if neither happened on the machine.

Sample 2026 quotes from our office

  • 2024 Polaris RZR XP 1000, stock, St. George, full coverage, $1,000 deductible: $34/month
  • 2023 Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo RR, $8K in mods, Hurricane, full coverage: $58/month
  • 2022 Can-Am Defender HD10, street-legal, Cedar City, liability + comp: $19/month
  • 2025 Polaris RZR Pro R 4, built (~$18K mods), St. George, agreed value $62K: $112/month

Quotes are illustrative; your number will vary based on driving record, credit, prior coverage, and exact build. The only way to know is to actually run it.

Three ways to lower the rate without cutting protection

  1. Raise the deductible from $500 to $1,000 or $1,500. On most machines this cuts comp/collision 15–25%.
  2. Bundle with home or auto through the same carrier — multi-policy discounts on UTVs run 8–20%.
  3. Skip "vanishing deductible" gimmicks that don't apply to off-road claims, and instead ask us to re-shop the policy at every renewal. The carrier with the best rate this year is rarely the same one next year.
