The OnPoint approach

What you actually need to know about auto coverage

Utah's minimum auto liability limits — 30/65/25 — haven't kept pace with the cost of medical care or vehicle repairs. A single serious accident on I-15 can produce medical bills, lost-wage claims, and property damage that easily exceed $100,000. Carrying state minimums means you, not your insurer, are personally on the hook for everything above the limit.

As an independent agency, OnPoint isn't tied to any one carrier. We quote your situation across our entire panel — Progressive, Safeco, Nationwide, Travelers, Hartford, Foremost, Dairyland and others — and recommend the policy that actually fits your driving profile, vehicles, and budget. If a carrier raises your rate at renewal, we re-shop instead of asking you to swallow it.

Southern Utah has its own driving realities: long highway commutes between St. George, Cedar City, and Mesquite; summer hailstorms that hammer Washington County every year; deer and elk on canyon roads; and a steady flow of out-of-state tourists driving rented RVs around Zion. We build policies that account for all of that — not generic templates pulled from a national rate book.

Driving in Southern Utah

Why a Southern Utah auto policy isn't the same as a Wasatch Front one.

I-15 commutes. The St. George–Cedar City corridor puts drivers on the highway daily. Speeds are high, traffic is unpredictable around Black Ridge and Leeds, and a single serious accident can produce six-figure medical and property claims. Utah's 30/65/25 minimum limits don't come close to covering a real I-15 crash.

Summer hail and monsoons. Washington County has been hit by major hailstorms in most recent summers — entire neighborhoods total. If you don't carry comprehensive on an older car, hail is on you. We almost always recommend keeping comp in Southern Utah even on paid-off vehicles.

Deer, elk, and canyon roads. The roads to Pine Valley, Kolob, Cedar Breaks, and Brian Head produce wildlife collisions year-round. These are comprehensive claims (not collision), so they usually don't raise your rate — but you have to actually have comp coverage.

Tourist and rental traffic. Zion, Sand Hollow, and Snow Canyon pull in millions of visitors a year. A lot of them are driving rented RVs and unfamiliar cars through Hurricane and La Verkin. Solid uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage matters more here than the statewide average suggests.

SR-22 and high-risk. If you need an SR-22 to get your license back, we file electronically — often same day — through carriers that don't penalize you forever for one mistake.

Utah requires 30/65/25 liability limits ($30K per person bodily injury, $65K per accident, $25K property damage) plus $3,000 PIP. These minimums are dangerously low — we recommend at least 100/300/100 with higher PIP and uninsured motorist coverage.
